When Does My Baby Need to See a Dentist?

Having a new addition in the family is a busy time. Time goes by fast and before you know it, your little one is teething. Teeth generally start to make their appearance around 6 months of age. The Canadian Dental Association recommends that your child be brought in to see a dentist within 6 months of the appearance of the first tooth or by 1 years old.

At their dental assessment, the dentist will evaluate dietary concerns, oral hygiene and any fluoride recommendations.  The dentist will check for cavities and any developmental abnormalities.

One of the most important reasons to bring you child to the dentist is for your child to be comfortable. Establishing a trusted relationship between your child and the dentist is essential. This allows open communication and easier dental visits for the child, the parents and the dentist.
